Lighting Controls Solution for Hospitality Industry
The Leela Palace, Gandhinagar, Gujarat

- Evio takes pride in implementing projects which demand fine execution skills. Evio’s on-ground and in-office teams proactively contribute towards fulfilling clients’ desires. Among the various projects undertaken, elaborated here is the magnificent Leela Palace at Gandhinagar.

- A thorough renovation from 2018 to 2021 saw a century-old railway station in Gujarat transform into a magnificent five-star luxury hotel: The Leela Palace. This hotel built over the concourse of the centrally located station, close to Dandi Kutir, Akshardham Temple, GIFT City and the Sabarmati Ashram, was originally built in the colonial era. With quality, soul and attention-to-detail as cornerstones for the renovation, this structure is now home to the visually stunning and elegant The Leela Palace.

- The lighting to all the main ‘front of house’ areas is controlled by a Helvar lighting control system. The system design proposed by Evio ensures that the lighting levels in all areas, including entrance lobbies, reception, main restaurants, corridors, ballroom and meeting rooms, are perfectly balanced to suit the needs of guests and staff alike, and also to run in the most energy-efficient manner at all times. Leela Palace is a vast space with numerous lighting circuits, and Evio’s design effortlessly manages the control system throughout.

- In each of these main areas, our proposed system allows a variety of lighting scenes to be automatically or manually selected at different times of the day. Each scene is pre-programmed to suit the varying uses of each space while taking into account the contribution of daylight. For example, in the Diya- Speciality Indian Restaurant, four main lighting scenes are automatically programmed to run through the day; breakfast, lunch, high-tea and dinner. At any time the Maitre d’ can override these main scenes to custom set light levels to suit a changing ambience. These changes can be easily achieved via the control panels positioned by the chief Maitre d’. Likewise, at the Grand Ballroom, there is another Control Panel with selections for setting up tables in either day or night, as well as separate scenes for cleaning and security.

- Evio took a keen note of all the minor requirements at site and ensured to come up with precise solutions. To avoid any hindrance in the project timelines, our team of highly proficient individuals closely monitored all the major and minor activities during execution.

- The public areas are fitted out with thirteen lighting control distribution boards and contain a combination of LED and analogue light sources. Due to the traditional nature of the hotel, The Leela did not want modern control elements to be visible on the user interface. A special design was created to fit in with the vintage decorated walls and pillars. To meet the aesthetic needs, custom DIN Rail arrangements were designed and procured by Evio with dimming and analogue modules mounted onto them. These were prewired and ready for installation inside an enclosure, which also houses the control of meeting rooms in the business center area.

- Concentrating on the ease of use, Evio has designed the system which enables the hotel staff to create the right ambience for the well-being of the guests. Being able to select and control scenes when required, gives the staff greater flexibility with the system which has been a very important factor in this project.
